Man At Home

This morning when I read my Seremban friend’s blog about her children with hubby made a mess in the bedroom, I couldn’t stop laughing but on the other hand, I really admire her tolerance level. If I were in her position, Papa-M sure kena gao-gao from me, I would definitely scold him. Actually I did have such quite similar experience too . One time, Nanny went for holidays. I did not want to sacrifice my annual leave, so Papa-M volunteered to take care of Bb-G at home (it was a Monday)
I was a bit worried too, because all these while Papa-M never bathe Bb-G before, never cook baby’s porridge at all, never clear and wash Bb-G’s butt when she poo-poo.. Anyway, everybody should have his first time, so I let Papa-M 100% in-charged of my baby’s life for ONE day.
So, before Monday reached, (during the weekend) I asked Papa-M to observe me how to bathe Bb-G. I taught him must put body lotion and some powder after bathe. After few hours, or if the cloth diaper was wet, must change. Then soak the cloth diaper with dettol solution. For the porridge, I decided not to ask him to cook. I told him to feed Bb-G with instant cereal, convenient and easy, anyway it was only for one day. Then I also told him that after cereal Bb-G MUST drink her milk after 1-2 hours, if not she won’t be able to take her noon nap or evening nap.

Okie, Monday reached, I went to work. Papa-M and Bb-G were still sleeping. When I was in the office, Papa-M never called me, so I assumed everything should be fine. He could handle our daughter well.
When I reached home, everything seems to be very normal at home. Papa-M reported to me, Bb-G ate her cereal with cheese, enjoyed a lot. As active as a mouse. I was so glad to know. This was what he told me lar. So my turn to asked him some questions:
1)How was the bathing process? OK? He said “ oh, I never use shampoo la, wet her hair can d, put a bit of body soap, wash wash then ok d”. I cannot remember what was the reason for not shampooing Bb-G, I think he said not necessary because Bb-G’s hair was still clean or he scared… (fine)

2)Bb-G got pang sai? How you clear? He said “ oh luckily she never pang sai!!” and his face very happy somemore (walau… if one day he cannot pangsai, see how he feels)

3)So you got put baby lotion and powder after bathe? He said “ aiyo no la, she is very active on the bed, move here move there, so I just pakai baju can d la, want to wear diaper oso susah..” (WALAU!!)

4)She took her nap? How many hours she slept? He said “ aiyo, she don wan to sleep ler, very active, then cranky, I put her to the cot, she cry, don wan to sleep, so never sleep at all” I ask again – you got let her drink milk or not before nap time? He said “ aiyo, need to drink milk meh? I let her eat cereal only, ooooo no wonder she cannot sleep, must drink milk ….” (WALAUUUUU!!!!!!)

I told myself to cool down, so I went to my bedroom for shower. When I entered my room, I smell urine. PAPA-M NEVER SOAK BB-G'S CLOTH DIAPERS, HE LEFT THEM ON MY BED THE WHOLE DAY !!!
I cannot tolerate further, I asked him why he never soak the diapers in dettol solution, whereby he knows that it is my practice all the while, and I also did tell him to do so. And he with his “selamba” punya style said “oh aiyo, forgot la, your baby is very active, I can only take care of her, other stuffs forgot d” ARRRRGGGG!!

Moral of the story : Trust or not trust a man with a baby at home?

In The Fridge

I really need to check my kitchen cabinet and fridge constantly. I always forgotten what I bought or keep in the kitchen. And once I happened to "discover" the food, it could be almost near to its expiry date. Just like that day when I opened my fridge, I saw one packet of organic spirullina noodle hidden at one far corner deep inside the fridge. It was so unnoticable due to too many stuffs standing in-front and cover the noodle package. And when I read the expiry date, the shelf life is about to end soon. So, I decided to cook it, but feel that it could be quite plain just to eat noodle without anything. (No more stock on vege and meat). So I sprinkled a little bit of Japanese furikake.

But I still found it too plain for my appetite. Therefore I ransacked my freezer, saw some frozen tiger prawns and burger meat. End of the day, I had a plate of wonderful organic noodle with 2 non-organic butter pan-fried prawns and a piece of unhealthy processed meat. ^_^

Respect

I was away from home for the past few days. Just reached my home sweet home yesterday midnight….
Last Friday when I was in the office setting up my laptop and projector in a meeting room for a presentation, Papa-M called to my handphone , I didn’t answer because I left it in my drawer. When I saw his missed calls and returned his phone, he was very angry, gave me a soft scolding somemore, said that I should throw away my handphone because I never answered him. I was a bit angry when he threw his temper on me without any solid reasons, but when he told me that his beloved grandpa “left the world” in the morning, my anger just disappeared….. Papa-M’s grandpa (maternal) passed away peacefully at the age of 89. Since Papa-M was a baby, he was taken care of by his grandpa (and grandma), therefore his relationship with the grandparents is very very close.
We went back to his hometown in the north during the weekend. Because Bb-G was still not feeling well, and the journey could be too long for her, I left Bb-G in nanny’s place. Until todayI have not seen my baby yet, I miss her so much! So does Papa-M….
Papa-M is a northern Hokkien and I am a southern Hainanese. During my trip back for the funeral, one of Papa-M’s uncles asked me one question – does the “process” similar to the “southern style”? I was like hmmmm….and refreshed back my memory 14 years ago to which my grandpa passed away when I just finished my Form 5. There were some similarity in prayers and procedures, only one thing I found was different. During my grandpa ‘s time, the children + spouses, grandchildren + spouses wore different colours of shirts to represent their generation/rank. For eg., my parents and uncles/aunties wore white shirt, then for my generation (the grandchildren) we wore blue. (Green colour represent greatgrandchildren). However during Papa-M’s grandpa’s funeral, all of us wore white shirts. The only way to represent the rank/status was by pinning a small square of colour cloth by the sleeves. For his son, daughters-in-law and daughters, it is light brown colour (string type), sons-in-law – yellow long piece of cloth rolled around the sleeves, paternal grandchildren – brown string cloth + blue cloth , maternal grandchildren – yellow + blue cloth , maternal grandson-in-law – light blue long piece hang across from the shoulder, and I also saw some of them pinning red or green, could be cousin-to-cousin relationships.
Anyway, whatever cultures, whatever procedures, it is the way to deliver the last respect to the deceased.

This photo was taken when Bb-G was around 5-6 months old. One of the best shots taken with Papa-M’s grandpa (Bb-G ‘s greatgrandfather).

Feeding Time Again

Instead of forcing Bb-G to drink milk at night before she sleeps or before taking her medicine, I use another strategy.
Yesterday I went to the mall and get some food. For me, buying or shopping for stuffs is the most spontaneous thing that I can commit. With a click on the fingers, I can purchase my stuffs almost immediately, do not need to think twice. When I know what I want, I could just grab and pay. However after having Bb-G, things start to get different especially when it comes to “her stuffs”.
It actually took me quite some time to decide which types of cornflakes/oatflakes to choose because there were too many varieties on the shelf. If I selected the wrong one, then Bb-G may not like the taste and end up Papa-M and me have to eat. Now I realise it is not easy to “feed” a child. I spent nearly 30 minutes (for me that is very long) in front of so many brands, flavours and types of breakfast cereals and finally I chosen this – Nestle Trix.

Don’t know why, but it’s my instinct tells me that my child may love it. Then, passed by an organic shop, went in and saw some baby food. It took me another long period to decide which one to buy, or should I buy for her??… Haiz… I really dislike such “po po ma ma” character which is absolutely NOT ME. Anyway, after thinking and thinking, I bought 2 types , a vege congee and a sweetcorn+pumpkin kind of mix.

So, as expected, Bb-G was excited with her new food. I put some pieces of Trix in a bowl, she liked it and greedily put EVERYTHING into her mouth.

But I didn’t know the cereals are a bit hard for her , therefore she couldn’t chew with her mouth full. Her saliva drooled, and when she opened her mouth all the cereals dropped on the floor. Another mess that I need to clear. Then, I slowly gave her piece by piece, she managed to eat a few, but eventually she didn’t want them anymore and started to roam around the house. Then I let her try the sweetcorn+pumpkin ,initially she was excited too and managed to eat a few spoonfuls, but again, she got tired of eating, refused and continued her walking activity. (Bb-G can just walk without stop at home, wonder why she got so much energy).

Fortunately feeding her with medicine was an easy task last night. She obediently sat on her high chair (I was with her last night, Papa-M had not reached home) and let me feed her slowly. No force, no push. I was so glad. At least she took her medi with some food in the tummy. After a while, she felt sleepy and slept soundly till this morning

War With Bb-G

Whenever Bb-G gets sick, her appetite is very very very very poor, YES! I want to stress many many times, her appetitite is very very lousy.

She had another flu, cough and phlegm attack last weekend. (She recovered not long ago). Papa-M and me had a bad weekend with her, she refused milk, porrigde, cereal, and even mi-suah. Her temper was very bad too. If she does not want, and it means NOOOOOOOOO!
No matter how much we persuaded her, sweet talked to her, or even "forced" her, it was non-negotiable. I was very frust and tension too. I had throwm lots of her unwanted milk and food. What a waste....

When she OK, she would obediently took all her medicine without any fuss at all (enjoy somemore), but when she was cranky and temperamental just like yesterday night, she vommited all her medicines, hardly poured in the liquid into her mouth. End of the day, her face, hair, hands, body, clothes all full of milk (that she refused to swallow previously) and medicines. Papa-M and me end up with lots of mess on our body too, and we sweat profusely! I understand she is having some hard time too, but I really lost my patience. Really feel like "smacking" her. (anyway, I did smack her little palms when she korek her food from the mouth last Sunday, rejecting all the cereal I fed). Furthermore, her last feeding was about 5.30pm in nanny's place. She did not had any milk at all until this morning, see how can a mother tolerate such thing?????

I really hope she will recover immediately and there would not be any war at home with this difficult little girl....

Plan Ahead

Sometimes really need to plan what to do , where to go, how to celebrate especially towards the end of the year. Many public holidays are coming soon, like Deepavali, Hari Raya Haji, Christmas then New Year ..
Next month during Deepavali, which Papa-M's birthday is around that corner, our nuclues family (Papa-M, Bb-G and myselft) will go to "one place" to celebrate. Will have a one night stay in "that place" too. ^_^

Then, my Seremban friend suggested to have a gathering at my house during X'mas 25/12/2010 and I think that is a fabulous idea. She wants to exchange gifts somemore. Therefore, I am inviting my Spore friend and Macau friend, also Batu friend (PL + LF), Puchong friend (nanny's daughter) to eat MY STEAMBOAT, as this Seremban fren macam very eager to taste my soup (since Spore fren said it was so good so good although she ate my mum's version) wakakaka....

Well.... confirm confirm ya, since we still have time to plan. Hope this gathering can happen, let's make the magic works!!!

Essential Oil

I am not feeling right and body is uneasy. Got a strong sense that some unwanted flu bugs are attacking me. My nose is block now, head a bit heavy. Shoulders quite stiff. Throat is not pain but quite dry. This morning at home ,I made myself herbal tea meant to relieve colds/flu/fever/body heatiness (quick and instant type, only need to steep in boiling water) and kept in a thermos to bring over to the office. Seems like it does not really work. My eyes are very tired now… dry and feel very sleepy. I think I am on the way to fall sick. Maybe I caught the virus from relatives who came over to my place during last weekend. Most of them were having flu, sore throat and cough.
I did lots of prevention on Bb-G, like making sure that she takes lots of immune booster kind of supplements eg., colustrum powder, Scotts fish oil emulsion and bao ying dan (very kiasu and kiasi – but I cannot afford to make her sick again, very difficult for both baby and adults). But then, I neglected myself. I should had taken extra precaution on myself too, maybe overconfident that my immune system is strong enough to battle away all the germs and viruses.
Anyway, yesterday my colleague who is developing essential oil passed me her sample. According to her, this particular oil can help to reduce flu , and I did try it by massaging some droplets on my shoulder, neck and head, put 2 drops in my mouth too. After a while, I felt better. My body was relaxed and nose unblocked. But after few hours the uneasy feeling came back again. Maybe aromatherapy works in a way, but cannot totally rely on it to cure a disease completely.

Steamboat

I am a steamboat lover. During any occasion, I would definitely choose to organize a steamboat dinner, just like the last Sunday during the siblings' gathering at my house.
For me, I am very particular when it comes to the soup base. I do not like or fancy those strong taste soup, for instant tomyam or herbal or spicy type. My all time favourite is “qing tang” aka normal chicken soup. And a BIG NO to ajinomoto or chicken cube.
If I am doing steamboat at home, I will start to make my own chicken stock. When the time permits, I would boil the soup for 2 days. Yes! I am that fussy and “yim jim” with my soup. So last Saturday, I filled up a big pot of water, add in 3 full chicken bones, dried abalone and corn. Let it boiled for about 4-5 hours. Off the fire, then kept until the next day. On Sunday, I topped up the water and added a bunch of ikan bilis and let it boil for another 3 hours. The soup taste superb and sweet! I even used the chicken + ikan bilis stock to cook Bb-G’s porridge and she loved the taste by finishing the whole bowl!

Yesterday night after work, we did a mini steamboat dinner at home (only Papa-M and myself + inlaws who came back quite late for supper) since there were some leftovers of fish balls, meat balls, prawns, real crabs, artificial crabstick, butter fish, salmon, mushroom, tofu, etc… in the fridge. Parents-in-law who didn’t eat on Sunday took this opportunity to wallop all , they even praised my soup base ..YUM YUM! I am always glad and contented when I see happy and satisfying faces when people eat my food.

Uncle TH's ROM

We reached Shah Alam early in the morning about 9.30am.

Before the vow taking ceremony, we took a family photo in front of the elevator.

Bb-G with the groom and bride

Bb-G with cousin-A who is only 2 weeks older.

Their 1st time together was during BB-G's four month old.

Met up again after 13 months plus

Cousin-A is a soft and quiet girl. Bb-G was very "samseng", kept bullying her cousin sister.

Poke her eye
Poke her mouth
Beat her chin

Mummy-J scolded Bb-G, asking her to be gentle and not so rough, then she immediately did this to her cousin.
Sayang ..sayang

Uncle TH with his 2 nieces

Then it was Uncle TH's turn to enter the registration room. After taking vows, signatures, both of them exchanged wedding rings.
The lovey dovey couple. Bride was so cheerful.

A group family photo

Another family photo from the male's side before we left the place. BB-G started to "samseng" again. She held tightly Uncle TH's wedding ring box (empty) and roamed the whole place. When grandpa pulled her back to take a photo, she threw her temper! One day she sure kena rotan from me... wait wait wait...

Weekend

I had a busy weekend.

Papa-M’s brother, Uncle TH tied his knot with his beloved wife on the 10/10/10 (registration of marriage). Therefore, Papa-M’s sister and husband with the 2 lovely children also came all the way from Sabah to celebrate this good event with the family. My parents in-law came to our place last Thursday, then the following Friday, the Sabah guests reached. On Saturday, MIL prepared a sumptuous dinner at Uncle TH’s newly moved house. At the dinner we had steam fish, Hokkien chay bue, Hainanese steam chicken, roast pork, barbeque pork, grill sambal fish, fried prawns, vegetarian fried mi hun. Too bad I forgot to bring over my camera, no photos!
While the adults were savouring the good food, the kids (Bb-G and her 2 cousins) walked around the house. And then, some of us need to constantly “jaga” them from going in and out the kitchen (wonder why the 3 kids just loved to enter the kitchen area especially Bb-G!)

The next morning which was on the 10th, we went to witness Uncle TH's wedding registration in Shah Alam in the morning. By noon time, we went for lunch. After lunch I reached home about 3pm and started to prepare the food for steamboat (yes, Papa-M and me invited the siblings over to our place for a steamboat dinner. Parents-in-law went to a friend's wedding function). And again, I was busy hosting, preparing the food and forgotten to take any single photo during the gathering ....

Before the guests reached our house, my brother and his girlfriend came over to pass me some stuffs they bought from China. They just reached home after 10 days Guilin wedding photo shots cum holidays. So I prepared the 1st round of steamboat for them. When they left, I prepared the 2nd batch for Papa-M's siblings. Dinner ended and the guests went home by 11pm ++. I made Bb-G to sleep, and immediately dozed off after a tiring night.

THis morning I woke up with MANY Monday blues. Reached office with very tired mood. But I went alone to a nearby Indian food stall and took one teh tarik, one puri and one vadel. A satisfying breakfast to start my day!

Playground

That Sunday where Bb-G wore her red Chinese costume, I took her out, together with sister to buy some baby stuffs in Twins Baby Shop near our house.Papa-M went to office to finish some outstanding work before he went outstation the next day.

All the baby milk bottles, teat, pacifiers, clothings, toys, and other apparatus are arranged nicely on the ground floor, whereas in the 1st floor customers can find baby cots, car seats, play pen and other bigger items such as indoor playground. We too, purposely went up to the 1st floor and let Bb-G experience some games ...

Papa-M Not Around

Papa-M flew back to his hometown since Monday, and would only be back on Thursday. His maternal grandfather is currently very sick, so Papa-M wants to visit the old gong-gong. Left Bb-G and me at home for past few days.

Yesterday, Bb-G did 2 things which I must jot them down here in my blog for Papa-M

1st incident:
As usual when I go to bathe (after fetching her from Nanny's place), I will "throw" her in the play pen. Switch on the TV or sometimes her Barney DVD, and then give her a bottle of plain water (a tightly screwed bottle which has a straw to let her slowly suck while I am taking my shower)
But yesterday she was hungry when we reached home. I prepared the milk and then let her drink alone in the play pen (in the living room). Then I went to bathe (in my room). I took a merely 15 mins of shower. When I came out, I was very surprised that I never heard Bb-G's voice or scream (usually she doees when her plain water has finished). So I thought she could be too full and just lied down and enjoyed the TV, hence I also slowly took my time to put lotion, body powder and combed my hair in front of the mirror.
When I came out from my room and approached Bb-G, I saw she had already pulled out the teat from the bottle screw ring, then her play pen bed was wet with her Pediasure, both her hands and legs were sticky. When she saw me, she gave a cheeky laugh by squinting her eyes!! One of her hands was squezzing the teat , and the other one shaking up and down the empty bottle....I was like going toPEEEEENGSAN! I believed she played with the leftover. Normally after she finished drinking, she would call me and pass me the bottle, and since I was not around, she ambil chance to play play la...
I was over confident with this littel toddler of mine, end up I had to clear the mess.
Moral of the story: NEVER NEVER trust a baby, you will never know what can he/she do behind you.

2nd incident:
So after taking out the milk wet tilam from the play pen, I sprayed some Febreeze and let it hang-dry. I have another small mattress, therefore I put in on the floor and let Bb-G sleep. Wet wiped her body and face from the sticky milk. Changed her pyjamas and both of us just lepak on the floor and watched TV. Then our neighbour came home and opened his gate which could be heard from our living room. So Bb-G thought Papa-M had reached home, so she quickly climbed up from her mattress and walked to the main door, stood there while pointing to me that she heard the gate opening sound. She even did her "OOOOooo" mouth again. And she tilted her head down to see the shadow through the wooden door tiny gap. She waited and waited but our wooden door never opened, Papa-M never entered. So I explained to her, it was our neighbour who came back, daddy will only come back tomorrow. I was not sure if she understood or not, but eventually, she came back to her mattress after a long wait by the door.
At night, Papa-M called me so I told him this 2nd incident, he was very touched and a bit "emotional".
Moral of the story: Papa-M, pls come back early lar, your daughter is missing YOU ^_^

Anxiety

Recently Bb-G “developed’ such sleeping habit at night. She would pull down the baby cot bumper to “check” if I am sleeping next to her. If I was not in the room, then she would scream loudly. Then I have to pretend sleeping with her, until she really really enters her dreamlands…
But in the middle of the night, she will wake up too, with her half asleep mode and check if I am still around next to her. Then she just dozed off in this should I say “not comfortable position” .
Hmmm is this a ”missing mummy” anxiety ???

Monday, October 04, 2010

Bb-G’s left eye has fully recovered. Doctor’s medicine worked so well on her, only one day application made her eye back to normal. However, she still has some running nose and cough. Despite the flu medicine claimed to cause drowsiness, Bb-G is still very active and energetic..haiz..
During the weekend when I was keeping her clothes into the closet, I realized that I have this Chinese costume my mother bought during the China trip. Initially I planned to let her wear during her 1st birthday when she was doing her “Item Selection” ceremony, but I totally forgot about it!
Hence, I was so eager to just let her wear it even at home on Sunday. The size is “S” and fits very well. Then by late noon I bought her out for a while to do some quick shopping. One salesgirl even commented this costume looks nice on Bb-G.

At home, Bb-G likes to go in and out from her play pen. She also loves to open and shut the gate, to be more precise, I mean she loves to BANG the gate !!
Go IN
Come OUT

I said NO ZUT ZUT in the mouth, she immediately took out her pacifier and posed in front of the camera. She even wanted to give me a flying kiss...

During very good mood, she can even dance in front of the camera.. see, the flu medicine fails to make her ZZZzzzzzzz
