Food I Ate ....

During my short holidays in Papa-M’s hometown, all I did was to relax and eat, eat and eat. However, ever since I started my diet plan, my appetite was not as big as before, and I didn’t really crave for any food from the north during this trip. It was more like having the chance to taste variety types of food a day, and ate in smaller portion.

The rocksugar birdnest.

MIL gave one bowl to Bb-G too.

Daughter feeding the father..sweet yah…

Chinese tea + peanut session with FIL.
The bigger cup was Pu-er, and the other smaller cup was Oolong. FIL taught me how to differentiate tea, how tea are fermented, etc….etc….It was a relaxing evening drinking tea with him on that day.

MIL made bread for us. But only me enjoyed the homemade walnut+almond+raisin brown sugar bread. Papa-M and Bb-G are the same creatures – the anti-bread gang! They never ate at all. What a waste….

Fried mihun with fried chicken wings, given by MIL’s friend

Niangao. Well, I didn’t eat raw like this, but cut into smaller bite size and then mix them with shredded salted coconut. Yummy, me, who never never like to eat niangao at all is missing the taste now.

All sorts of fruits. MIL and me blended them into healthy juices one morning for our breakfast. We had guava+ red apple juice, green apple + carrot juice, orange + carrot juice, beetroot+ginger+apple juice, starfruit+ orange juice.
All of them tasted very good. How I wish to have a fruit juicer that MIL has. Hers is a slow juice extractor, which is known to preserve the enzyme of the fruits. The fruit juice that we made tasted exactly like those premium juices we can buy from the fruit kiosk in the shopping mall.

Mi suah cooked in pig intestine pepper soup.

Fried kailan

Steam white and gold pomfret

Fried bangkuang (the Hokkien said – jiu hu char).
I like to eat this dish with green lettuce and sambal belacan.

I helped MIL to make this sambal too. Just toast some belacan and ikan bilis in the oven until they are crispy. Then combine them with red chilli and crush with a mortal and pestle. Add some lemon juice to make them sambal a bit sourish. When I was making this sambal, I felt like I was a Nyonya-poh sitting on the floor kok-kok-kok the sambal belacan…kekekeke....

I also learned how to cook chicken rendang . Usually when I cook curry type dishes, I would normally buy ready packed curry powder/mixture and follow the instruction given on the package. But this round, I learned MIL’s recipe step by step.

She blended all the rempah rempah – 1st batch contained turmeric, ginger, dried chili, lemongrass, garlic; 2nd batch contained shallot and big onion. Poured both into the heated wok and simmer until the water content fully evaporised.

Kiffir lime leaves
Tumeric leaves

Then add in cooking oil, turmeric leaves and kaffir lime leaves, sauté until fragrant.

Put in chicken, salt and coconut milk, cook until they are done.

Other than homecooked food, we went to the golf club house for dinner before we flew back to KL.
Mushroom soup for Bb-G. Being a soup lover, she could finish the whole bowl on her own.

Club sandwich. The coleslaw was nice.

Salmon steak

Grilled chicken in black pepper sauce

Baked fish

I also ate Thai food and Chinese food in the restaurants with inlaw's friends. Anyway, this trip was indeed a relaxing one...

Pre-Holiday

Was back in Papa-M's hometown now in the north....

Last Wednesday night Papa-M, Bb-G and myself flew back to Papa-M's hometown. We made an early trip back since we won't be back to in-laws's place for the Chinese New Year. This trip via flight was an experience for Bb-G. In fact, this was her 3rd time flying back to the grandparents' house. Previous 2 times, she was a small baby. This round, she had been telling us that she wants to "SIT AEYOPANE". ..!

Our flight was delayed for an hour, and therefore we reached hometown at 9.15pm. To make Bb-G sit tightly in the airport, we bought her chocolate. And to tame her in the airplane we bribed her again with more chocolate too. She practically talked non-stop in the plane.
After inlaws picked us up, we went to a Thai restaurant for a dinner. We had fried cat fish, sambal petai with prawns and bamboo shoots, a type of thai soup but I could't remember the name, fried kailan with salted fish, kerabu mango and chicken satay. Mother-in-law was thoughtful, thinking that the food may be not suitable for Bb-G, she prepared some fish porridge in advance for her dinner.

Back to inlaw's house by 11.30pm, took our bath and we slept until the next morning.

Yesterday, after breakfast, we went to Tesco to get some fruits and MIL bought CNY clothes for all her grandchildren. Then, took lunch in Papa-M's grandma's house. During tea time, inlaws brought Bb-G and me to visit Aunty Chong, their friend, for dessert and coffee, whereas Papa-M went out to meet his friend. Aunty Chong had made us niangao with salted coconut shreds. In fact this was my first time eating niangao that way. Usually back in my hometown in the south, people will deep fried niangao with yam or sweet potato. The niangao I ate in Aunty Chong's house tasted just like ondeh ondeh but without the gula melaka filling.

After that, we went back to inlaws'house. FIL is a tealover, so I had a Chinese tea session with him. Chinese tea goes well with peanut, and therefore I couldn't stop munching peanuts while enjoying my Pu-er and Oolong tea until 8pm. By then, Bb-G woke up from her late evening nap. She woke up with no appetite for dinner, hence for the very 1st time, she took her dinner (porridge) at 10pm!! Besides the porridge, she also took fruits and kueh kapit. So syok huh....

Dear MIL also prepared us some bedtime dessert - rock sugar birdnest. 3 bowls for Papa-M, Bb-G and me. Went to bed by 11.30pm. I was quite sleepy by then. HOWEVER, Bb-G talked non stop on the bed. She yelled, she sang, she spoke to herself continuously for almost 1 hour. I almost had the urge to feed her flu medicine to make her sleep!! When Papa-M and me asked her to sleep, she replied us this "YOU QUIET"... Walaoeh! I really couldn't tolerate her because I was really tired, but could'nt sleep because she was too noisy singing beside me. I woke up and smack her buttock. She was stunt, immediately quiet down for 10 SECONDS! Then sang, laughed and talkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkked. My tolerance level had reached to the max and I "tiak"her cheek with my fingers and cool stared at her. She quiet down immediately...and yes, quiet down to sleep. I was not too sure what time was that, but believe it should be around 1.30am.

This morning I can blog a little just because, now at 11.40am, Miss Bb-G is still sleeping.........

Monkey See Monkey Do

This old man is memang busy, but this young lady is memang kepochi, pretending to be busy....

Such scenario always happen in my house. Whenever Papa-M is working with his lappie, or talk over the phone, Bb-G will definitely follow exactly

Birthday 2012

Yesterday was my birthday. Instead of going out for dinner/celebration, I suggested to have a simole meal at home. It would be more relaxing that way.

Pap-M bought back Kenny Rogers. When I reached home from work, was surprised and felt touched when I saw MIL cooked some misuah and made me red boiled eggs for me , the birthday lady.(yah, should not say birtday girl anymore)

The spread of food on the table, A bit too much for 4 adults and 1 small child.

Inlaws and Papa-M sang me a birthday song, they even asked Bb-G to sing along, but the girl refused, she thought that it was her birthday, somemore sitting like a queen in the middle of the table Helo BB-G, is mommy's birthday lar..

I like one of the special function in the Canon 230 - the smart shutter. All we need to do is to smile and show our teeth, the camera will snap our photos on its own. Cool !!
All of us with our GIGI

I wish all the people close to me blessed with good health forever. Happy Birthday to me agian!

Purple

The best present that I give to myself for this year is a Canon IXUS 230. I bought it last week when I went shopping with sister. I’ve got a purple one.

The very first few photos I try to test with the camera was this MooMoo frozen yogurt with pumpkin seeds. Was glad with the results! And the yogurt was really yummy!

Back at home, I purposely told this to Papa-M. I said in a cold tone,” Eh, if you are going to buy me a camera as a surprise birthday gift in January, then no need lar…. I already bought one”
He laughed, saying that he indeed plans to give me a camera for my birthday gift. Haiya! I should wait right…..anyway……is all right……..

Ingots

Few weeks ago, Papa-M went to Fun & Cheer, the shop which sells China imported goods.

These caught his attention, hence he bought a few packs to decorate his office.

How I wish, instead of the normal WATER rain, Heaven God Emperor will rain us with GOLD INGOTs this coming Chinese New Year! Let's pray together ya ...
